Ohio baby sitter pleads not guilty in infant's death

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — A baby sitter in northeast Ohio has pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges in the death of an infant.

The Northeast Ohio Media Group reports that the sitter, 49-year-old Laura Flores-Santillan, entered pleas of not guilty on Monday at her arraignment in Akron.

Flores-Santillan is charged with two counts of murder, two counts of child endangering and one count each of involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault. She remains jailed on $1 million bond.

Emily Cortes was taken off life support in an Akron hospital and pronounced dead five days after she was found unresponsive at the sitter’s home. Her death was ruled a homicide by blunt force cranial trauma.

A judge appointed an attorney for Flores-Santillan for immigration issues that might arise from the case.
