Residents can properly dispose of expired, unused and unwanted medications at the National Drug Take Back Event, sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration and area community partners from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Bring medications (no sharps/needles, liquids or medical waste) for disposal. The service is free and anonymous. No questions are asked. Drop-off sites include:

BOARDMAN

Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley now offers Sibshop, a supportive group program for siblings of children with special needs.

Sibshop, designed for children 6 to 13, meets from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. on Wednesdays, Oct. 8, 15, 22 and 29, at Akron Children’s, 6505 Market St., Building C, Suite C1100 in Boardman. To register, call 330-543-3516.

“Being the sibling of a child with special needs can be challenging. This program provides an opportunity for these children to play games, make new friends and have some fun,” said Rochelle Nyer, program coordinator.

Portion control class

AUSTINTOWN

A free presentation, open to the public, on what constitutes a single serving and how to manage portion size will be offered during the next “Healthy Eating for You: Portion Control” presentation from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Oct. 3 at Humility House, 755 Ohltown Road, Austintown.

Registered dietician and community educator Bridget Lackey will lead the informational discussion and answer questions. The presentation is provided by Humility of Mary Health Partners. Reservations are appreciated. Call 330-480-3070.

Flu and pneumonia shot clinic offered

YOUNGSTOWN

The Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown, and the Youngstown City Health District are offering a flu and pneumonia shot clinic from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 6 at the Jewish Community Center.

Medicare and Medicaid will be accepted. Cards are required. The flu vaccine will be administered through injection. The cost is $20 for the regular flu shot; $50 for the high-dose flu shot; and $65 for the pneumonia shot.

Sinus education program offered

SALEM

Otolaryngologist Dr. Wayland Wong is offering a free educational program Oct. 21 at Salem Regional Medical Center, 1995 E. State St, in the Tower Conference Room located on the ground floor.

At 6:30 p.m., participants can view displays and complete a paper sinus screening assessment. Dr. Wong will present “New Trends in Sinus Treatment” at 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided, and participants will have an opportunity to register for door prizes that may be helpful in providing sinus symptom relief.
