Community forum on police is Sept. 30

A community forum “What To Do If You’re Stopped By The Police” will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 30 at Metro Assembly Church, 2530 South Ave.

The forum is in response to the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., by a police officer in August. Reports said Brown, who was black, was unarmed. The officer was white. The case has gone before a grand jury.

Scheduled to speak are retired Youngstown Detective Sgt. Delphine Baldwin-Casey; retired police Chief Jimmy Hughes; representatives from the city police department and the Black Knights Police Association; Guy Burney, coordinator of the city’s Community Initiative to Reduce Violence; the Rev. Ed Noga, president of Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighborhoods; and Rose Carter, ACTION executive director. Ernest Brown Jr., a regional editor and columnist at The Vindicator, is the moderator.

The forum is sponsored by ACTION, the Black Knights and CIRV. The host pastor is Al Yanno.
