Nursing practice
Carole L. Marks, daughter of the late Jeff H. and Gladys L. Marks of Youngstown, received her doctorate of nursing practice degree, with highest honors, from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., late last month.
Dr. Marks graduated from The Rayen School in 1977 and completed the Akron General Medical Center School of Registered Nursing program in 1981. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla., in 1997. She received dual master’s degrees in nursing education and the family nurse-practitioner track, also from Barry, in 2007. She is currently a practicing board certified family nurse practitioner.
Marks worked with Dr. Morris W. Lee of Third Baptist Church in Youngstown to conduct and complete her doctoral research study. Her primary research interests lie in prevention and wellness medicine, chronic-disease management, decreasing health disparities and serving the underserved.
She intends to teach at the academic level.
HONORS
Association secretary
Dr. David Waldman of Youngstown was installed as secretary of the Ohio Dental Association earlier this month during the ODA’s 148th Annual Session in Columbus.
In his role as secretary, he will serve on the ODA’s Executive Committee overseeing the management of the association throughout the next year.
Dr. Waldman is a general dentist in private practice in Youngstown. He earned his bachelor’s and doctor of dental science degrees from Case Western Reserve University.
He is a past president of the Corydon Palmer Dental Society and has served on several committees and councils with the Ohio Dental Association. He is also a past president and past treasurer of the Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity.
The ODA serves more than 5,000 members, nearly 75 percent of the state’s licensed dentists, through programs, services and member benefits.
