Youngstown man faces drug charges

A 31-year-old Youngstown man faces multiple felony charges after a traffic stop.

When police stopped Anthony Aviles-Virola of South Lakeview Avenue shortly before 12:30 a.m. Friday, they immediately noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from the car and discovered that Aviles-Virola’s license had been suspended.

On Aviles-Virola, Patrolman Richard Craig Jr. and Capt. Michael Leonard, found 27 bags containing suspected cocaine, a bag containing suspected heroin, 1.9 grams of suspected marijuana, numerous pills and $344 in cash.

According to a report, Aviles-Virola was suspected of being under the influence of drugs at the time of the stop.

In addition to the four drug-possession charges, the drug-trafficking charge and the driving-under-suspension charge, Aviles-Virola was charged with illegal conveyance of drugs into a detention facility.
