Ministerial intern
YOUNGSTOWN
On Sept. 28, First Unitarian Universalist Church of Youngstown will welcome its first ministerial intern to its staff. Kristina Spaude, a master of divinity student at Meadville Lombard School of Theology in Chicago, will begin a two-year, half-time internship program at the Youngstown church.
She is a member of the UU Church of Kent and works part time as director of religious education at SouthWest UU Church in North Royalton. She also has been a coordinator of the Kent Community TimeBank. Her primary career interest is chaplaincy.
Blakeman Ministries

Blakeman Ministries led by the Rev. Carl (Gene) Blakeman Jr. will host a “Come Alive” banquet at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Brentford House, 737 Myron St.
Guest speaker will be Hector Colon of Youngstown.

Sister Anne is on staff of the National Retirement for Religious Office. She will speak on “Enhancing Life through Collaboration.”

St. James’ Episcopal Church, 7640 Glenwood Ave., will participate in National Back to Church Sunday this weekend. Special messages for adults and children will be included in the liturgy. A free lunch will be offered after the service.

Polka Mass

St. Joseph the Provider School will sponsor a polka Mass at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 28 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1125 Turin Ave. Celebrant will be the Rev. Michael Swierz, and liturgical music will be by Eddie Vallus Band.
The Mass will begin the Octoberfest celebration with dinner and entertainment in the hall.

World religions

Sister Nancy Dawson, executive director of The Ursuline Center and an instructor of World Religions classes at Youngstown State University, will offer a special lecture series on several religions and discuss the criteria for recognizing similarities and differences with Christianity.
Sister Nancy will explore the stories, symbols, rituals, beliefs, values, writings, artistic expressions and charismatic leaders of several world religions
There is a $40 donation for the four-class lecture series; participants also can pay $10 per class. Classes will be Oct. 8, 15, 22 and 29. The same class will be offered from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 6:30 to 8 p.m.

World Communion

Paul’s United Church of Christ, 159 Todd Ave., and Wee Wisdom Preschool will celebrate World Communion Sunday with a special “Friends and Family Celebration” Oct. 5.
Free coffee, juice and doughnuts will be served at 10:30 a.m., followed by traditional worship at 11.
After the service, the church and preschool will host a fall festival with games, crafts, activities and food.
