Bowden sparks Leopards; Girard rolls

Lynn Bowden accounted for all eight of Liberty’s touchdowns — six on the ground, one through the air and another on a kick off return — to begin All-American Conference play in impressive fashion.

Bowden had 17 carries for 295 yards and completed three passes to JaShawn Whitman for 124 yards for the Lopards (3-1, 1-0 AAC National).

The Flashes (0-4, 0-1) got scoring runs from Nate Stahlman (52 yards) and Cody Cykon (50 yards).

Girard 33, Campbell 12

Jake Ryser rushed 20 times for 268 yards to lead the Indians (3-1, 1-0 AAC National). His touchdown runs covered 66 and 52 yards.

Quarterback Christian Bello passed for 110 yards and ran for 86. He hit Ryser with a 31-yard touchdown pass and scored on runs covering 18 and 7 yards.

For the Red Devils (0-4, 0-1), Aaron Jackson rushed for 136 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown.

Lakeview 56, Newton Falls 0

NEWTON FALLS

Kevin Bayus ran seven times for 110 yards and a touchdown and Jake Grovers added 12 carries for 104 yards and a TD to lead Lakeview (2-2, AAC National), which held the Tigers to 0 total yards.

Newton Falls (1-3, 0-1) had minus-20 yards rushing and 20 passing.

Hubbard 49, ND-CL 15

Hubbard (4-0) scored five straight touchdowns after Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin (3-1) tied the game in the first quarter.

George Hill ran for three touchdowns of 44 yards or longer, finishing with 180 yards on nine carries.

Larry Scott added 156 yards on the ground for the Eagles (4-0) and Isiah Scott had two rushing touchdowns.

Hubbard was led defensively by Dom Pantone with 13 tackles and David Margala with 11. Brett Lopuchovsky had two interceptions.

New Philadelphia 40, East 14

NEW PHILADELPHIA

Touchdown passes of 85 yards and 35 yards from Bobby Jefferson to Isiah Nuckles helped East (1-3) rally from a 21-0 deficit after one quarter.

The Panthers got within 27-14 in the third quarter before the Quakers (2-2) pulled away.

Jefferson passed for 196 yards and Brandon Jackson added 84 yards through the air. Nuckles had five catches for 170 yards.

Austintown Fitch 42, Dover 32

DOVER

Antwan Harris ran for three touchdowns and passed for two for the Falcons (3-1). His runs, cover 40, 1 and 11 yards.

Earl Scott and J.C. Mikovich caught the touchdown passes. Darrin Hall rushed for another score.

GlenOak 14, Boardman 0

CANTON

Boardman was held to 150 yards of total offense in a road loss to GlenOak. The Spartans (0-4, 0-1 Federal League) got 62 yards on the ground and 50 receiving from senior Evan Croutch (YSU commit).

Other than that, it was tough sledding for the Spartans offense. They did get another solid defensive performance in a losing effort.

GlenOak (3-1, 1-0) was led by quarterback Brendan Tibbs, who threw for 80 yards and ran for 78 accounting for both touchdowns.

Huron 54, Brookfield 10

Brookfield saw a 7-3 first-quarter deficit turn into a 41-3 debacle late in the second quarter against the Tigers (3-1).

The Warriors (2-2) scored their only touchdown on the last play of the first half on a pass from Augustus Necastro to Marc Kraml.

South Range 56, Lisbon 28

Joe Alessi rushed 20 times for 280 yards and scored five touchdowns for the Raiders (3-1, 1-0 Inter Tri-County League Tier One). His scores came on runs of 30, 39, 6, 7 and 11 yards.

Ryan Miller completed 9 of 15 passes for 115 yards. Greg Dunham’s three receptions gained 50 yards and he scored on a 3-yard run. Nick Stanton returned a punt for a 60-yard score.

Trailing 21-7, the Blue Devils (3-1, 0-1) scored two second-quarter touchdowns to stun the Raiders. Josh Liberati, Danny Shultz, Jason Thompson and Austin Davis scored the Lisbon touchdowns. Thompson gained 120 yards on 15 carries.

Crestview 56, East Palestine 32

EAST PALESTINE

Zach Hicks tied Crestview’s single-game rushing record, carrying 37 times for 322 yards and four touchdowns to lead Crestview (2-2, 1-0 ITCL Tier One). Jesse Best added 100 yards rushing and two TDs and he also threw for 102 yards and two TDs. Evan Beachler caught both TD passes, which covered a total of 97 yards.

Nick Monteleone led East Palestine (1-3, 0-1) with nine catches for 123 yards and two TDs and also ran 12 times for 47 yards and a TD. Luke Best threw for 214 yards and two TDs and ran for 25 yards and a TD. Grant Wagner ran for 79 yards, including a 58-yard TD.

Columbiana 41, United 28

HANOVERTON

Clippers sophomore Mitch Davidson passed for 189 yards and ran for another 125 yards. He threw two touchdown passes to Cooper Smith covering three and 22 yards. He also threw a 17-yard touchdown to Dalton Miller. One of his 27 carries was for a 46-yard touchdown.

Miller also rushed for a 6-yard score.

For the Eagles, Tyler Powers rushed eight times for 99 yards. One was a 50-yard touchdown run. Cody Dickens threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Eric Blosser and scored on a 29-yard run. Caige Vincent rushed 14 times for 110 yards.

Western Reserve 37, Wellsville 13

WELLSVILLE

John Clegg passed for 230 yards including a 51-yard touchdown pass to Wyatt Larimer for the Blue Devils 4-0, 1-0 ITCL Tier Two). Evan Nesbitt scored touchdowns on runs of 1 and 22 yards. Brian Sunderman returned a kick 75 yards.

For the Tigers, TyShawn Franklin scored on a 53-yard run and Alik Bradford hit Vinnie Giordano for a 3-yard score.

Southern 19, Leetonia 6

LEETONIA

Michael Oates ran for 153 yards and two touchdowns to lead Southern (1-3, 1-0 ITCL Tier Two). Gabe Richards added 104 yards rushing and a TD and Oates threw for 52 yards.

Jim Knepper caught five passes for 52 yards and a TD for Leetonia (1-3, 0-1) while Drew Turney completed 11 of 25 passes for 112 yards and two interceptions.

Lowellville 48, Sebring 28

LOWELLVILLE

Alex Harklerode ran 14 times for 151 yards and three touchdowns and Phil Ginnis ran for 153 yards on 13 carries with three TDs and a 50-yard interception return for another score to lead the Rockets (2-2, 1-0 ITCL Tier One). Eric Grow added a 20-yard interception return for a TD.

Sebring is 3-1, 0-1.

Louisville 49, Salem 7

The Quakers jumped out to a 7-0 first-quarter lead then was overwhelmed by the Leopards (3-1) in the Northeastern Buckeye Conference opener.

Kade Byland was a bright spot for Salem (2-2) with 98 yards on the ground.

Warren Harding 26, Maple Heights 6

In the opening game in Lake Erie Conference play, Keemari Murry had 207 yards on 27 carries and two touchdowns to lead the Raiders.

Murry scored in the second on a 2-yard run and broke a 60-yard run in the third quarter. The Raiders (2-2) gained 297 yards on the ground.

Marlington 38, West Branch 13

Alliance

Chris Pennell passed for 241 yards and Jacquiez Sampson rushed for 157 yards for the Dukes (1-3, 1-0 Northeastern Buckeye Conference).

For the Warriors (1-3, 0-1), Corey Snyder completed 12 of 31 passes for 173 yards. Three were intercepted.

Snyder scored on a 7-yard run and hit Jerian Thomas with 57-yard touchdown.

Southington 20, Windham 12

WINDHAM

Cody Helmuth ran 24 times for 140 yards, Zac Weaver ran for 69 yards and a touchdown and connected with Justin Len for a 50-yard TD and Christian Romigh also ran for a TD to lead Southington (1-3, 1-1 Northeastern Athletic Conference).

Dylan Blewitt led Windham (0-4, 0-1) with 85 yards rushing and a TD. He also threw for 56 yards.
