Golf scramble to be Sept. 28

Team families, Canfield Boys Golf is hosting a Parent/Junior 9-Hole two person scramble. Sept. 28, beginning at 8:30 a.m. It is open to boys and girls in grades 3-12, except CHS Sectional Starters. Canfield has victory over Poland

Canfield (11-1) recently beat Poland(7-3) at Canfield 3-0 with scores of 25-14, 25-14, 25-22. Top players for Canfield included Darby Hepola (9 kills, 3 blocks), Morgan Leonard (9 kills), Maddie Johns (13 kills), Janie Rafoth (25 assists), Rachel Rafoth (27 digs) and Emma Hartshorn (11 points)

Canfield boys soccer defeats Marlington

The Canfield boys soccer team recently took on Marlington at Marlington and came away with a 4-0 victory. Goals were scored by senior Frank Phillips (from senior Brett Lewis), senior Maleck Saleh (from junior Ben Feuer), senior Maleck Saleh(from junior Ben Feuer) and senior Frank Phillips (unassisted). Canfield attempted 12 shot on the goal, as opposed to Marlingon’s eight. The Canfield made four saves (Jeffrey Joseph and Patrick Byrne). The Canfield junior varsity team came away with a 3-0 victory over Marlington.

Cianciola, Kaleel and Barrett pace girls tennis

With victories over Warren Harding (4-1), Edgewood (5-0) and Jefferson (5-0), the Canfield girls tennis team improved its record to 13-1 and remained in first place in the AAC. Sparking the girls’ attack with two singles wins each was the play of Hannah Cianciola, Ashley Kaleel and Grace Barrett. Also victorious were Taya El-Hayek and Emily Hofsess. Contributing to the undefeated play of the doubles teams were senior captains Emily Ellis, Bri Slemons and Marina Sturgeon, as well as Paige Modarelli, Lany Slemons, Emily Hofsess, Mia Hanlon, Nicole Grimm and Frankie Santon.

Boys soccer defeats Lakeview

The Canfield boys soccer team recently defeated Lakeview with a score of 3-0. Goals for Canfield were scored by junior Alex Shaer unassisted, senior Frank Phillips (2), with assists from junior Brandon Seybert and senior Brett Lewis. Jeff Joseph made five saves for Canfield.

Canfield takes second

The Canfield girls golf team took second with a score of 174 at a match played between Canfield, Kent Roosebelt (149) and Warren JFK (200). Top players for Canfield were Christina Cooper (40), Gillian Cerimele (42), Kerra Loomis (43) and Kaci Carpenter (49).

Girls volleyball topples Lakeview

The Canfield girls volleyball team defeated Lakeview at Canfield with a 3-0 win and scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-18. Darby Hepola 10 kills and six blocks. Maddy Johns had 15 kills, while Emma Hartshorn had nine kills and Morgan Leonard had 10 kills. Janie Rafoth contributed 42 assists and Rachel Rafoth made 49 digs.

Boys soccer defeats Austintown

The Cardinals boys soccer team improved their record to 3-2-1 with the victory over Austintown on Sept. 9. The final score was 3-2. Canfield had 10 shots to Austintown’s seven. Junior goalkeeper for Canfield, Jeff Joseph, had six saves. The Austintown goalkeeper, Miguel Gonzolez, had eight. Canfields three goals were scored by seniors Frank Phillips and Max Lumsden and junior Trevor Wilson.

Girls golf topples Poland

The Canfield girls golf team played against Poland on Sept. 9 at Diamond Back Golf Course and came away victorious with a score of 166-222. Top players for Canfield were Christina Cooper (35), Kerra Loomis (43), Kaci Carpenter (44) and Gillian Cerimele (44).

Canfield volleyball defeats Youngstown East

Canfield volleyball played against Youngstown East on Sept. 8 and came away with a 3-0 victory. Janie Rafoth contributed 37 points and eight aces, while Darby Hepola had eight kills. Morgan Leonard scored nine points for the Cardinals.

It’s fall sports season. Neighbors wants to be there every step of the way. If you’re a summer sports coach or the parent of an athlete, we need you help. In order to get teams and players the recognition they deserve, we want to showcase them in our pages. We can only do that if you commit to sending us game reports and photos each week. If you send it, it will get in.
