Columbiana High School freshman Jared Wilson hasn’t even been in high school for a month yet and he’s already making a name for himself.

With matching rounds of 73, Wilson and Clippers teammate Joe Lucci earned medalist honors at the Inter Tri-County League boys golf tournament on Wednesday, but more importantly brought a championship to Columbiana.

The Clippers, who finished the season with a perfect 14-0 record, shot a team total of 319 at Pine Lakes Golf Club to earn the Division I title. Bruce Wiggins shot 81, Griffin Williams 92, Mike Vargo 109 and Matt Pinciaro 120 for Columbiana.

Wilson was also impressive this summer in the Vindicator Greatest Golfer of the Valley junior event, winning the championship in the boys 14-and-under division with a round of 3-under par 69 at Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club.

Ryen Kemp had a strong performance for East Palestine with a round of 77. D.J. Brandy shot a 79 for the Bulldogs, who finished second in with a team score of 324.

Jackson-Milton took third with a total of 335, led by Nick Householder’s round of 79.

Avery Andric was the other golfer to break 80 with a score of 79 for Lisbon.

In Division II, Leetonia and McDonald battled it out with the Bears coming away with a three-stroke victory.

Josh Faulkner shot 80, while teammate Corey Valentine shot 85 to lead Leetonia (11-3). Hunter Smith had a 92, Brandon Custer 98 and Dan Garlough 119 for the Bears, who finished with a team score of 355.

McDonald’s low scorers were Mikey Baker with a 80 and Dominic DiRenzo with a 85.

The medalists were Western Reserve’s Nolan Snyder and Southern’s Jordan Myers, who both shot 79 on Wednesday. The Blue Devils took third with a team total of 364, while the Indians finished fourth with 377.
