YOUNGSTOWN

A man shot in the back of the head Monday evening in a van on South Avenue was one of two people looking to buy drugs, a witness told police.

Jessie Daviduk, 21, who court records show has an address on Glenwood Avenue in Boardman, was shot in the back of the head near his ear just before 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of South and Dewey avenues, reports said.

Police were called to St. Elizabeth Health Center for a report of a gunshot victim and found a van there that was used to drive the victim to the hospital, reports said.

The driver of the van told police he picked Daviduk up in Struthers, then they used the victim’s phone to arrange to buy drugs at the intersection, reports said. When they arrived, two men were waiting, and one man jumped in the van and sat behind Daviduk.

The man who jumped in the van pulled a semiautomatic handgun and said, “I want everything.” The victim turned around, and the man with the gun shot the victim, reports said.

The driver of the van drove away after he heard the gunshot, reports said. The gunman jumped out of the moving van, which the driver was driving to the hospital with Daviduk.

Several minutes later, an ambulance crew found a 16-year-old male lying in the middle of Dewey Avenue near the intersection unconscious, reports said.

Lt. Douglas Bobovnyik of the Detective Bureau said the person lying in the street is a suspect.
