Guard, inmate injured in Ohio prison escape

Wednesday, September 17, 2014

COLUMBUS (AP) — The state says a guard and an inmate were injured in last week’s escape involving a convicted killer of three high school students.

An initial incident report by the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction says the guard that captured the first inmate received stitches for minor injuries afterward.

The report released Tuesday also says that that inmate, 19-year-old Lindsey Bruce, received treatment of some kind that the state didn’t identify.

The state still hasn’t explained in detail how the three inmates, including school shooter T.J. Lane, escaped by scaling a fence in a recreation yard.

The 19-year-old Lane had a pitchfork with him when recaptured a few hours after the escape.

Lane was convicted of killing three students at Chardon High School in the Cleveland area in 2012.
