YOUNGSTOWN

Ohio Supreme Court Justice Judith L. French will serve as a judge for today’s Youngstown State University Constitution Day Moot Court Competition on the first floor of Tod Hall in the YSU trustees board room.

Seven YSU students competed in January in the national American Collegiate Moot Court Association competition in Arizona after excelling at the regional competition in fall 2013.

Pedestrians hit

YOUNGSTOWN

A woman who police said hit a pair of pedestrians crossing Market Street on Tuesday morning has no driver’s license. Daquala Shelton, 24, of Cambridge Avenue was cited for having no operator’s license when police were called for two pedestrians hit by a car near Hilton Avenue at about 12:10 a.m. The pedestrians, identified as James Mady, 61, and Raymond Rigelsky, 78, were taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Reports said Shelton was driving south on Market Street and the two men were crossing east to west when they were struck. Witnesses told police it was hard to see the men. Shelton has a court date today.

Girl hit by car

YOUNGSTOWN

A child was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center after being hit by a car at about 4:20 p.m. Tuesday. A police spokesman said the girl was hit at Oakhill and Chicago avenues, and when the driver realized he had hit her, he called police. The girl has a possible broken leg but no life-threatening injuries, the spokesman said.

Wrong prescription

BOARDMAN

Township police are investigating a case in which someone mistakenly received the wrong prescription from Walgreens, 7295 Market St., and called the person listed on the bottle to solicit more pills. According to a police report, a manager at Walgreens reported a man picked up his prescription last week and that someone else’s prescription ended up in his bag along with his own. The prescription was for 120 hydrocodone pills.

The person whose prescription was mistakenly given to the man called Walgreens to report that the man had called her asking her to sell him more pills. Police are investigating a suspect for drug possession and telecommunications harassment.

3 shot in Warren

WARREN

Three people were struck by bullets fired on the southeast side of Warren shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday.

According to The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV, the shots were fired from one yard toward another in the 2700 block of Burton Street Southeast. All three victims were taken to area hospitals; their names and conditions were not being released as of Tuesday night.

Warren police are asking anyone with information about the shooting, or about possible suspects, to contact the detective division at 330-841-2660.

Special meeting today

YOUNGSTOWN

Mahoning-Youngstown Community Action Partnership’s board will have a special meeting in addition to its monthly meeting at 11:30 a.m. today at MYCAP’s office, 1350 Fifth Ave.

Device in mailbox

POLAND

Township police are investigating a case in which someone left a homemade explosive device in the mailbox of a resident of the 3100 block of Olde Winter Trail.

Police said the victim saw someone put a device, later determined to be made with a drain cleaner, in the mailbox Saturday and alerted officials.

Police and fire officials were able to secure the bomb before it exploded.

Man pleads guilty

WARREN

Brandon Peyatt, 23, of 10th Street in Niles, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to having unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. Peyatt will be sentenced in about four weeks, after the Trumbull County Adult Probation Department conducts a presentence investigation. He could get up to 18 months in prison. Court documents say Peyatt engaged in sexual conduct with a 14-year-old girl in 2012, when he was 21.

Complaint filed

WARREN

Vernon Township trustees have filed a complaint in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court against Frank E. Peterson and Darlene E. Peterson of 7785 Jewell Greenville Road in Kinsman regarding the flow of water from their property onto Jewell Greenville Road,

The lawsuit says the couple has refused since Oct. 21, 2009, to repair, maintain or otherwise improve the field tile or drainage system to accept the runoff water from their property, causing “extreme damage of erosion of the road surface and creating a safety hazard to the traveling public.”

The suit seeks an injunction restraining them from unreasonably diverting or altering the natural water course or creating an obstruction to the natural flow of the water.

The suit is filed by Atty. Mark Finamore. A call to the Petersons on Tuesday was not immediately returned.

Open house planned

WARREN

Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership, in collaboration with the Garden District and Trumbull 100, will have an open house for its newest renovated property, 453 Vine Ave. on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

TNP staff will be on hand to give tours of the property, answer questions, and distribute information regarding this and other Land Bank properties and processes.
