Youngstown firefighters battle three blazes

YOUNGSTOWN

Firefighters were called to blazes at three vacant homes early this morning that resulted in all three homes being destroyed.

A fire at a vacant 2309 Elm St. duplex about 2 a.m. on the North Side caused $8,000 in damage, reports said. First crews on the scene found the front half of the building on fire, reports said.

At 2:30 a.m., crews were called to a 436 N. Garland Ave. home on the East Side for a report of a fire and found the house and garage fully involved in flames when they arrived. Damage there is listed at $5,700.

On the North Side at 3:40 a.m., crews were called to a vacant 2400 Wydesteel Ave. home that had two vacant homes on both sides. Firefighters kept those homes from burning down but the address where the fire was called in burned to the ground. Damage is listed there at $4,000. Reports said one firefighter was slightly injured.

The cause for all three blazes is listed as under investigation.
