Ohio State names band director search committee

COLUMBUS (AP) — Ohio State has named a search committee to find a new director for its celebrated marching band.

The panel was named today by David Manderscheid, the school's executive dean of arts and sciences. It is charged with finding a replacement for Jonathan Waters, who was fired July 24. Waters and his backers oppose the dismissal and question a university investigation that concluded Waters knew about but didn’t stop a “sexualized culture” within the band.

The university and its board stand by the firing.

Mark Shanda, a divisional dean of arts and humanities within the College of Arts and Sciences, will serve as search committee chairman. Other members include administrators overseeing university bands, jazz studies, athletics and the university’s medical college; a band alum; and two current band members named by fellow students.
