Fire destroys house in Campbell

Monday, September 15, 2014

CAMPBELL

A vacant house at 46 Sixth St. in the city is a total loss following a fire late Sunday.

Fire Chief Nicholas Hrelec said when crews arrived on the scene shortly after 10:30 p.m., the house was fully engulfed by flames. In addition, a live power line prevented firefighters from attacking the blaze on all sides until electrical crews arrived.

"It didn't really hinder us," though, said Hrelec, who added that firefighters were most concerned with protecting the neighboring house -- located just six feet away from the house engulfed in flames.

One firefighter was treated on the scene, but continued to fight the fire afterward. He was knocked off the porch when the house collapsed.

Hrelec was unable to list a specific dollar amount of damage. A cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
