Charges upgraded in Shady Run Road shooting

Thursday, October 30, 2014

YOUNGSTOWN — Charges have been upgraded from felonious assault to aggravated murder against a Louisville man who is charged with shooting a Shady Run Road man Sept. 30.

Paul Lee Kerr, aka Wiley Grant Cherry, 48, was charged in a superseding indictment today by the Mahoning County grand jury with aggravated murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm in the death of 49-year-old Lenzie Morgan Jr.

Morgan died Oct. 15 of the injuries he suffered when he was shot. Police say he was arguing with Kerr when Kerr shot him and ran away.

Kerr has yet to be taken into custody.

Police were called to the 2709 Shady Run Road home about 8:10 a.m. Sept. 30 where a woman met them in the front yard and said Morgan, her husband, had been shot in the head.

Police found Morgan inside on a chair, bleeding from his head. At first, he was able to speak, but then fell over and was treated by paramedics, who took him to St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Police said Kerr was known to be homeless and was staying with Morgan when Morgan was shot.
