YOUNGSTOWN

Twenty candidates have applied to be the next executive director of Mill Creek MetroParks, according to a list of applicants obtained by The Vindicator.

The deadline for applications was last Friday, and the park administration continued to receive applications early this week.

The applicants included at least four people who currently work for the park system.

James Willock is the MetroParks police chief; Keith Kaiser is horticulture director; Kevin Smith is administrative director and treasurer; and Justin Rogers is the park planning manager.

Other candidates include: Gary Sexton, director of broadcasting for WYSU; Kathleen Vrable-Bryan, Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District administrator; Walter “Buzz” Pishkur, city of Arlington director of water utilities and former president and chief executive officer of Forum Health and of Aqua Ohio Inc. and Aqua Pennsylvania Shenango Division; Jennifer Jones, Green Youngstown program coordinator, and Dennis Malloy Jr., 570 WKBN outdoor radio show host.

The board of commissioners accepted the resignation of current executive director Dennis Miller at the end of September.

Miller has accepted the position of golf director at The Lake Club, a country club in Poland, and will leave the MetroParks at the end of the year.

Miller has worked at the park system since 1998. He served as head golf professional, golf director and then as executive director the past two years.

He signed a five-year contract in March. Under the terms of the contract, he made an annual salary of $87,500.
