YOUNGSTOWN

A 23-year-old Maplewood Avenue woman has become the city’s 13th homicide of 2014.

Youngstown Chief of Detectives Capt. Brad Blackburn said the shooting of Shaniece Wells about 11:30 p.m. Saturday stemmed from an argument earlier in the evening between two men.

Blackburn said after that argument, a group of women drove to a home in the 800 block of East Boston Avenue looking for one of the participants in the argument.

Blackburn said the group of women was leaving the home when someone at the home fired a gun, which hit Wells.

The victim was first taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center Boardman Campus on Market Street in Boardman. She was then transferred to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, where she died.

The police report notes that the victim had at least one gunshot wound.

Detectives do have a suspect, but no one is in custody yet, Blackburn said Sunday. Police are continuing their investiation of the case.

At this time in 2013, the city of Youngstown had recorded 14 homicides.
