Saturday, October 25, 2014

Staff report

On Nov. 8, the shelters, rescues, sanctuaries, humane societies and pounds of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties will collaborate for an adoption day, “Empty the Shelters Day.”

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., when Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana county organizations will either have open adoption hours or will be available for appointments.

Participants can view all the animals available for adoption by visiting www.emptythesheltersday.org and choosing the organization from which they are interested in adopting. There also will be links provided to each organization’s website or Facebook page as well as contact information.

Many of the shelters allow same-day adoptions, while some require additional time to review adoption applications; participants are encouraged to check the adoption policies for each to better understand the process.

Empty the Shelters Day organizers encourage individuals who cannot currently adopt to donate or volunteer to a local organization or to foster a pet.

Those planning to adopt are encouraged to learn about the animal in which they are interested and come prepared with any paperwork such as vet records and completed applications. Adopting an animal is a commitment and a responsibility.

Local organizations Alchemy Acres, All Paws Are Perfect, Cats Are People Too, Legacy Dog Rescue, Close To Home, Ohio Shorthair Rescue, Animal Pawtectors, For The Love Of Dogs, No Fear Rescue, Shelter Puppies and Youngstown Street Dogs will participate Nov. 8 by appointment; please contact the individual organization.
