Convicted SW Ohio juvenile court judge seeks new trial

CINCINNATI (AP) — A southwest Ohio juvenile court judge convicted of a felony charge is seeking a new trial.

A jury convicted Hamilton County Juvenile Court Judge Tracie Hunter of unlawful interest in a public contract on Oct. 14 after a five-week trial. Jurors were unable to reach unanimous verdicts on eight other counts, including tampering with evidence, forgery and theft in office.

Hunter’s attorney filed a motion for a new trial today. The filing alleges the court violated rules and denied her a fair trial by refusing to poll the jury after the verdict was announced in open court. It says two jurors indicated after trial that the guilty verdict reached on one count wasn’t their true verdict and they would have shared that opinion if they had been polled.
