Help Hotline receives grant for $7,500

Help Hotline Crisis Center received a $7,500 Community Connections grant from The HealthPath Foundation of Ohio as fiscal agent for the VIP Family Violence Prevention Coalition, which is dedicated to ending workplace and domestic violence.

The 2014-15 HealthPath Foundation of Ohio Community Connection’s initiative is focused on communications and storytelling.

Through this grant, the VIP Workplace Program will recruit employee and employer success stories.

Those stories will then be shared and used to raise awareness and to engage business owners, chief executive officers, safety directors, human resource personnel and managers in ending workplace and domestic violence and resulting in safe families, safe workplaces and safe communities.

VIP receives $2,500

The Kennedy Family Fund, a component of The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, has awarded a $2,500 grant to the VIP Family Violence Prevention Coalition.

Women participants wanted for surveys

Komen Northeast Ohio is seeking women to participate in breast health surveys it is conducting as part of the research process for their 2015 Community Profile report.

Essentially, the community profile reveals what’s happening in Northeast Ohio related to breast health, breast cancer and breast cancer disparities.

Once problems and issues have been identified, Komen Northeast Ohio will direct grant dollars to organizations and health systems that break down the identified barriers and help women in need gain access to quality, affordable breast-health education, screening and diagnostic services.

Komen is seeking individuals who live or work in Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Harrison, Jefferson, Lorain and Mahoning counties who have not been diagnosed with breast cancer, breast cancer survivors and breast health care providers.

Komen is especially looking for individuals who belong to or work with African-American/black Hispanic/Latino individuals or survivors, and those who do not have health insurance

Better Living class

The American Red Cross of Northern Ohio, in partnership with Gateways to Better Living, is offering Red Cross Instructor Training on Dec. 8 and Dec. 10 at Gateways for Better Living, 6000 Mahoning Ave. The cost is $500.

The course is for individuals interested in becoming CPR/AED/first-aid Instructors, as well as safety teams and companies interested in train-the-trainer skills.

Candidates must be certified in adult and pediatric CPR/AED and first aid. There is a pre-requisite Web-based portion of training before the classroom dates.
