Poland schools to have a "Blue and White Day" in support of parents fighting cancer
Staff report
POLAND
The school district will have a “Blue and White Day” on Friday to raise money for the families of eight Poland students who have a parent fighting cancer.
The parents — Dan Ayres, Aimee Schweers, Lisa Sikora and Julianna Stefek — each have two children in Poland schools, and all of the parents are battling cancer.
School-district officials asked the families if they would be open to financial help, since they are dealing with medical expenses, loss of wages, travel expenses and other financial burdens.
School principals organized the effort, Superintendent David Janofa said.
“It really started with awareness that we have some families with significant health issues,” Janofa said. “Being a school community, we just wanted to give back.”
Students and staff are encouraged to make monetary donations in support of these families Friday. Donations will be collected in all six schools as students enter their building Friday.
Students also are allowed to dress down for the day and wear blue and white clothes.
All checks should be made payable to the Poland Cancer Benefit Fund.
The funds will be deposited in a Farmers National Bank account, and then distributed equally among the four individuals.
