Police officer shoots, kills driver in SW Ohio

Friday, November 14, 2014

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Police in southwest Ohio say an officer fatally shot a driver in a business parking lot after a traffic stop.

The shooting occurred Thursday night in Butler Township, outside Dayton. The Dayton Daily News reports a restaurant employee who witnessed the scene said the man who was shot had a knife and moved toward police.

The township police chief said two officers encountered the driver during a stop, but the chief didn’t release details. He didn’t publicly identify the driver or the officers.

Police in Piqua, about 20 miles to the north, say the encounter was connected to the search for a 33-year-old man considered potentially armed and dangerous. Piqua Lt. Bill Collins says police sought the man after a complaint of stalking at a Piqua-area business.
