Tax notices

NEW CASTLE, PA.

The Lawrence County Treasurer’s office will mail county tax reminder notices to the taxpayers who have not paid their 2014 county property taxes.

If the notice is received in error, contact the treasurer’s office at 724-656-2124.

Any property-tax payments not received in the office or postmarked by Dec. 31 will be filed with the Tax Claim Bureau, and the property owner will incur additional costs.

No personal checks will be accepted after Dec. 15 for the current-year taxes; only cash, money orders, certified bank checks or credit cards will be taken.

A third-party convenience fee (2.45 percent) for all credit-card transactions will be applied.

Two arrested

CAMPBELL

City police arrested two men Friday in separate incidents.

Samuel A. Buxton, 23, Monroe Street, was charged Friday afternoon with criminal trespass, carrying a concealed weapon, illegal possession of a weapon and possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia on Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority private property.

Police said Buxton was carrying a loaded handgun and a small plastic bag with suspected crack cocaine when he was stopped. He previously had been given warnings by police for criminal trespass, according to a police report.

Michael S. Clark, 27, Tremble Avenue, was arrested Friday night and charged with carrying a concealed weapon, illegal possession of a weapon and receiving stolen property after police discovered a stolen, loaded handgun in his vehicle. That arrest took place on Tremble.

Man awaits sentencing

MERCER, PA.

A Mercer County man who once faced more than 300 charges for purportedly committing sex crimes with a teenage girl, now awaits sentencing, according to a report by The Vindicator’s broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV.

According to online court records, Bruce Sankey, 45, of Jamestown, Pa., pleaded no contest in October to one consolidated count of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.

When he first was charged, he faced 319 counts for purportedly having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl.

Pennsylvania State Police say the crimes occurred in 2011 at Sankey’s home, and the deer park in Jamestown where Sankey is employed.

He remains free on bond until his sentencing.
