Winning pitcher Brittany Knight struck out seven and walked two as the Bombers (16-6) won the district title at Candlelite Knolls. Jessica Isler had three hits and Knight two. The Panthers finish at 13-2.

West Branch 10, Carrollton 0

CARROLLTON

Jeni Stewart had four hits including a double to lead the Warriors (17-6, 9-4 Northeastern Buckeye Conference). Winning pitcher Sarah Weber (9-3) was relieved by Catie Metzgar and Halle Manna. Bailey Byers, Weber and Bailey McElwain each had two hits. Carrollton is 9-15, 6-8.

Scott Everett and Nick Kaiser each had two hits while Jared Damko and Nick Jurcevic each drove in a run for the G-Men (7-12, 3-6).

CHAMPION

Winning pitcher Lucas Nasonti struck out five and walked none in tossing a four-hitter. Michael Turner had three hits including a double while Nasonti and Jacob Walters had two apiece. Walters and Chris Miller each drove in two runs.

TRACK AND FIELD

Area individuals had a good day in Division I and McDonald’s teams dominated as expected in Division III as the district track and field season got under way on Wednesday.

At Austintown Fitch, Canfield sophomore Andrew Hallof won the discus event with a personal best toss of 165-2, and East High senior Terell McClain set a district meet record in the long jump with a leap of 23-1 1/4.

“He had been competing all year,” Canfield throwing coach Nick Wagner said of Hallof. “He had been consistent all year and I knew he could do it.”

McClain was one of four local long jumpers to clear 20 feet — Taylor Fortson of Howland, Sam Ortz of Fitch and Turel Thompson of Boardman were the others. The top four in each event advances to next week’s regional meet.

Fitch junior Dylan Latone set a meet record of 15-feet in winning the pole vault and Gabby Figueroa of Fitch and Maya Bell of Warren Harding finished second and third, respectively, in the girls shot put.

Solon leads both the boys and girls race. The meet concludes on Friday.

At Springfield High, McDonald’s boys and girls teams raced to big leads on the first day of the Division III meet. It also concludes on Friday.

The Blue Devils got winning performances from Tory Ross in the girls shot put, Christian Smith in the boys discus and both 4x800 relay teams.
