NILES

Niles police are asking for the public’s help to solve the Monday robbery at the CVS pharmacy, 1331 Youngstown Road, involving a man who demanded drugs.

The white male was wearing a blue baseball cap, black suit coat, dress pants and dress shoes. He had a partial, brown beard and moustache.

Woman injured

HUBBARD

A city woman was injured when her car collided with a garbage truck early Friday morning.

Paige L. Coey, 24, of East Liberty Street was at North Main and Henry streets about 1 p.m. when the accident happened.

She was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center.

The truck driver, Richard Latimer, was not injured. Police did not have his age or address available Friday. Their report was incomplete.

St. Elizabeth’s did not have information on Coey.

Chandelier falls

WARREN

The normal peace and quiet of a Friday at the Trumbull County Courthouse was literally shattered by a mishap involving a chandelier on the third floor, dropping about 20 feet to the landing in the stairwell during routine maintenance.

Workers were lowering the chandelier to change light bulbs about 1:45 p.m. when something went wrong with the steel cable attached to it, allowing the fixture to crash to the floor, breaking much of the glass in the fixture. No one was injured.

Fire in laundry area

BOARDMAN

Fire crews extinguished a fire that began in the laundry area of a home early Friday.

Firefighters responded to a call at 2:44 a.m. and found smoke coming from a second-floor window of 177 Maple Drive. Once inside, firefighters found a dryer and the immediate area around the dryer on fire.

Authorities said the fire started in the laundry area, but didn’t know the cause of the fire late Friday afternoon.

No one was injured. Boardman fire officials said there was $5,000 worth of damage to contents of the home and $15,000 in building damage.

Streets to be closed

YOUNGSTOWN

These streets will be affected during the Ninth annual Unity in the Community Parade today, from 10 a.m. through the completion of the parade: A one-lane closure starting at Midlothian Boulevard and Market Street, and northbound on Market to Delason Avenue; right turn at Delason; right turn at Erie Street ending at the South Field House.

Juvenile charged

WARREN

A 14-year-old male student at the Lincoln K-8 building on Atlantic Street Northeast was charged through Trumbull County Juvenile Court with aggravated assault for purportedly assaulting a principal Thursday afternoon.

The male, of Oak Knoll Avenue Southeast, was asked to get off of the bus at 2:30 p.m. for causing a problem, then assaulted the 44-year-old female principal.

After the Warren police officer was called who serves as school-resource officer, the male then assaulted the officer by pushing him and threatening him.

Damage reported

CAMPBELL

City police are investigating a report of criminal damaging that occurred at a McCartney Road business.

Shortly after noon Thursday, officers responded to Great Reflections car wash, 100 McCartney Road, where the owner told them that unidentified people had cut the lock on the bay safe in an attempt to get to the cash inside. They did not get to the money, however, and damaged only the safe.

The owner said he left the car wash about 5 p.m. Wednesday and noticed the damage upon his return to the business early Thursday.

Police are putting extra patrols in the area.

Street closed for party

Berkley Avenue between Kimmel and Dale streets will be closed from 4 to 11 p.m. today for a block party.

March for Babies

YOUNGSTOWN

These streets will be closed for the March for Babies Walk from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday: Fifth Avenue northbound lane closure from Armed Forced Boulevard/University Plaza Drive to Eastbound Service Road; Eastbound Service Road, Fifth Avenue to Wick Avenue, with ramps remaining open; Wick Avenue southbound lane closure from Eastbound Service Road to Rayen Avenue; and Lincoln Avenue, with Wick Avenue to Fifth Avenue/Wood Street closed.

Seat-belt ticketing

YOUNGSTOWN

Boardman and Poland are participating in the nationwide campaign beginning Monday through June 1 to ticket motorists not wearing their seat belts as well as committing other traffic offenses. According to Boardman police, officers will be in high-visibility areas instead of doing normal patrols during the two-week campaign.

Officers will be on the lookout for speeders, aggressive and distracted driving in addition to seat-belt violations.

Facing drug charge

Sari Durney, 32, was arrested on a charge of possession of heroin about 6:10 p.m. Thursday at Oak Hill and Parkwood avenues after an SUV was pulled over for driving in a heavy rain with no headlights on.

The suspected heroin was found on the seat where Durney was sitting, reports said. She was a passenger in the SUV. Reports did not list an address for her.

The driver, Robert Norris, no age or address listed, was cited for driving without a license and his SUV was towed. His Pennsylvania driver’s license was expired, reports said.

Durney was taken to Mahoning County jail.
