SALEM

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus will be the keynote speaker at the Columbiana County Republican Party’s annual Lincoln Day Dinner on Friday.

“This will be a rare opportunity for this county to hear from one of the leading Republicans in the nation,” said Columbiana County Republican Party Chairman Dave Johnson.

Priebus was elected Wisconsin Republican Party chairman in 2007. He became general counsel of the Republican National Committee in 2009.

He resigned as general counsel in December 2010 to run for RNC chairman. After seven rounds of voting in January 2011, Priebus was elected to the position. Priebus, 42, was re-elected to the position in January 2013.

The event at the Salem Community Center, 1098 N. Ellsworth Ave., starts at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $35 per person; call 330-223-1511 through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is a 50 percent discount for students under age 25.

Those contributing $2,500 are invited to a private reception with Priebus and four reserved dinner seats. A $1,000 contribution gets the same, except it’s for two reserved seats.

Also attending the event are Ohio Republican Party Chairman Matt Borges, U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson and Ohio Supreme Court Justices Sharon Kennedy and Judith French.

Johnson and Justice Kennedy are seeking re-election in November, while Justice French, appointed in December 2012 by the governor to fill a vacancy on the court, will run for a full term also on the November general-election ballot.

The party also will honor Mary Alice Groppe, a lifelong Republican who has served 75 years as a pollworker and is celebrating her 105th birthday.
