Ohio former doctor accused of distributing painkillers

Wednesday, March 26, 2014

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Federal authorities are accusing a former doctor in northeastern Ohio of illegally distributing painkillers and pills to his patients.

The FBI says those who were prescribed the pills included drug addicts and people who were never examined by the doctor.

An indictment released today names 63-year-old Dr. Adolph Harper Jr. of Akron, along with three of his office workers.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says the group distributed hundreds of thousands of doses of prescription drugs from 2009 to 2012.

Among the charges are conspiring to traffic pharmaceutical drugs, drug trafficking and health care fraud.

The indictment also alleges the doctor’s employees would write orders for painkillers for themselves or patients when the doctor wasn’t in the office.
