Poland falls to Akron SVSM, 54-42

CANTON

Jacob Wolfe scored 11 points in his final game for the Poland High basketball team as the Bulldogs lost, 54-42, to Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary in the Division II district title game.

VJ King scored 14 points to lead the Irish who beat Poland for the second time in five seasons in the regional championship game at Canton Civic Center.

Poland head coach Ken Grisdale expressed frustration after the game because SVSM has several out-of-state players.

“It’s wrong, it isn’t the way it’s supposed to be,” Grisdale said of the OHSAA system that mixes public and private schools based on enrollment. “Four out of [their] five starters aren’t even Ohio kids.”

“Until people start waking up. I mean, I don’t know how taxpayers in the state of Ohio or [a] public school system, how they deal with this.

“It’s wrong.”
