Few things change about Trumbull County Fair — including the price

Most of the attractions at this year’s Trumbull County Fair on July 7-13 are the same ones that were offered last year — because people who attend the fair still want those same things, fair officials say.

The standard attractions of the Trumbull County Fair on Hoagland Blackstub Road are car races, demolition derby, 4-H events, musical performances, tractor pulls, rides, food and fireworks.

Another thing that hasn’t changed is the price. It’s still $8 at the gate, which Brenda Richman, financial secretary for the Trumbull County Fair Board, says may be one of the most attractive features of the annual July classic.

“It’s good, family fun, and $8 gives you everything on the grounds but the food. I say we’re the best value in Ohio,” she said.

The agricultural and animal events have remained the same for decades, but fair officials decided to try some new family-oriented activities last year.

Sunday Fun Day activities, open to anyone at the fair, include the skillet toss and cornhole tournament. And a chainsaw carver who was popular when he was added last year is back again.

But there is one attraction that is entirely new this year — the Marvelous Mutts, which puts canines into action above a large pool. They show their agility by jumping over obstacles and catching discs in their mouths, then falling harmlessly into the water.

The times for those shows will be announced later, but the show will be performed two to three times per day each day of the fair, Richmond said.

There is no cost to enter the fair for children under 24 months of age, and it’s $4 for anyone 62 years of age and older.

Weekly passes cost $18 with single-day ride passes added to that for $6.

There is another cost for anyone who wants to watch auto races or the demolition derby from the pit area — $10 per person.

That was popular last year with about 1,000 of those passes sold, Richmond said.
