On June 9, North Elementary closed out the school year with its annual Fun dDy, giving its 200 students a chance to unwind and have fun at the end of the year.

“[PTO president] Mrs. [Amy] O’Hara came up with the idea of the fire theme because her husband’s a firefighter, so they brought in the Poland Fire Department and help out with it this year,” said second-grade teacher Stephanie Hoover. “They brought along a lot of their gear so that they could use it for the obstacle courses and we do this every year. Every year’s a different theme. At each station they’re doing something active.”

There were many activities for the students to do, including making picture frames, a dunk tank, doing tug of war, a parachute, an obstacle course, dress as a firefighter and run through cones, cornhole, a bounce around plus popcorn, drinks and snow cones.

Second-grader Jacob Jenkins said he had fun at the event and enjoyed doing cornhole the best.

“It’s fun and we did obstacle courses and we did tug of war,” he said.

Hoover said Fun Day is a good way for the children to end the school year and stay active as well.

“It’s physical activities, it’s enjoying time with parents, all the PTO moms, just enjoying a last fun week fun activity for them to do,” she said. “It’s just a great activity for them to bond and have a good time together. They look forward to it every year. Every year it’s a different theme. They get really excited.”
