Man poses as doc, tries to draw blood from woman at Akron Children's

A man posed as a doctor, forged prescriptions and tried to draw blood from an elderly woman at Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley, 6505 Market St.

According to a police report filed Thursday, a Middle Eastern man came to the hospital June 20 and asked if blood work could be done there. He then provided a prescription for three types of blood tests.

His name, which matched the name on his identification card, was stamped on top of the prescription. He claimed to be a doctor.

The man returned to the hospital Tuesday with another prescription for blood work for himself, as well as a prescription for blood work for a woman for whom he claimed to be the legal guardian.

According to the police report, a lab tech entered an exam room and observed the man “with a needle in his hand and blood on the syringe.”

The lab tech said the man had tried to draw blood from the woman, who did not speak during the visit.

“It was discovered that [the suspect] lost his medical license in 1997 and has had several documented violations of both civil and criminal law,” the report said.
