The Austintown Lions Club has been busy during the month of June.
On June 7, they hosted Candy Day at the Austintown Walmart, where the Lions gave out assorted mints while accepting donations for their many causes, which include scholarships, eyeglasses and exams for the needy, and contributions to many community and Lions programs, including Pilot Dogs, the Eye Care Foundation, Eye Research and more. Lion Bob Melcher chaired the Candy Day event.
On June 14, the Austintown Lions Club actually went to the dogs as they sponsored their first annual Rabies Vaccine Clinic at the Christy Armory in Austintown from 10:00 a.m. until 3 p.m. Erik
Dougherty from the Sunny Ridge Veterinary Clinic in Rogers served as the attending veterinarian. The Lions were busy during those hours, registering close to 200 dogs and cats to receive rabies shots and other vaccinations. They will participate in this program again next year. Lions John Facemyer and Bob Whited chaired the event.
