POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

June 15

Theft: A $400 shrub was removed from a flower bed belonging to a business in the 400 block of North Main Street.

Criminal damaging: A worker for a North Main Street caf noticed her car’s windshield had been damaged, possibly with a rock.

June 16

Theft: A $150, hand-crafted totem pole was taken from the front of a store in the 500 block of South Main Street.

June 17

Damage: Officers received a report of a reckless motorist who reportedly drove through a lawn in the 500 block of Caroline Avenue.

June 18

Arrest: Authorities took custody of 43-year-old Cheryl E. Richard of Victor Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on a probation-violation charge related to one count each of carrying a concealed weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Burglary: To an apartment in the 200 block of Caroline Avenue through a rear window. Stolen were $550 and a 42-inch flat-screen TV.

Possible attempted theft by deception: Two workers with a West Liberty Street restaurant reported a man called claimed his vehicle was disabled, then entered the eatery and asked for $70 with a promise to write a check to cover that amount.

June 20

Domestic violence: John M. Trickett of Stewart Avenue, Hubbard, was charged with the crime after his wife alleged Trickett, 46, had grabbed her throat during an ongoing argument. She suffered a minor injury.

Theft: A three-tier bicycle rack was taken from a Jeep vehicle in the 500 block of North Main Street.

June 22

Arrest: Michael A. Wells, 23, was picked up during a traffic stop on North Main Street. Wells, of Woodland Avenue, Hubbard, was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant accusing him of failure to appear in court.

Domestic violence: Joshua G. Colich, 25, of West Liberty Street, Hubbard, faced a charge after his girlfriend alleged Colich had struck her during an argument, resulting in a cut and significant swelling to her left cheek.

Theft: Two $4,800 golf carts were stolen from Pine Lakes Golf Club, 6233 W. Liberty St.

Harassment: A West Liberty Street woman said two people have made and sent her unwanted calls and text messages.

June 23

Summons: Police on South Main Street pulled over and issued a summons charging 56-year-old Michael A. Henson of Columbus with having a fictitious vehicle registration and driving under suspension.

Theft: A Hubbard boy reported a $700 cellphone stolen while at a township playground.

LIBERTY

June 17

Arrest: Youngstown police apprehended and turned over to township authorities 28-year-old James Sheets of Midland Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Arrests: Police at the Mahoning County jail booked Charles E. Rivers, 40, of Charlotte Avenue, Youngstown, and Lavette Boone, 49, of East Boston Avenue, Youngstown, on outstanding warrants.

Assault: A couple told authorities that three women, including the man’s estranged wife and daughter, came to their Madison Avenue residence, struck the man’s face and dragged him across a front lawn.

Theft: A small sum of money was discovered missing from an elderly Keefer Road man’s account.

Theft: A self-propelled lawn mower was stolen from a home in the 1200 block of Overbrook Avenue.

Theft: An Austintown woman reported her purse stolen from a shopping cart while at a Goldie Road big-box store.

Domestic violence: Robert L. Edmison, 54, of Hampton, Tenn., was charged after police responded to a disturbance in a wooded area off Belmont Avenue and reportedly heard a woman’s muffled screams before she alleged Edmison, her fianc , had grabbed her neck and covered her mouth during an argument. The two had been living in a tent in the woods for a few weeks, authorities surmised.

Drugs: After an officer pulled over a vehicle in the 4200 block of Belmont Avenue because an occupant reportedly had tossed trash from a window, 25-year-old Shane S. Temple of Conneaut was charged with littering. Also, Robert P. Martin, 25, of Canton was charged with possession of criminal tools and drug paraphernalia when, authorities said, he had two suspected heroin kits and a digital scale.

Theft: A Colonial Drive woman said an acquaintance stole $1,258 worth of her clothing.

June 18

Arrest: Weathersfield Township police handed 34-year-old Anthony P. Woodland Jr. of Williamsburg Street Northwest, Warren, to Liberty authorities. He was wanted on an outstanding Girard Municipal Court warrant.

Arrest: Authorities responded to a shoplifting situation at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, and took into custody Brian D. Mosley of Ormond Avenue, Sharon, Pa., after learning that the 37-year-old Mosley was wanted on a Mercer County, Pa., warrant. Also, a theft charge was pending.

Assault: A Trumbull Court man told police another man struck the accuser and forcibly removed him from the apartment after having accused the victim of stealing.

June 19

Burglary: To a second-floor apartment in the 500 block of Gypsy Lane. Items stolen included a laptop computer, a 55-inch TV and a Sony PlayStation 3 system.

Theft: Two lawn globes were removed from a yard in the 1300 block of Virginia Trail. The loss came to $800.

Theft: Someone stole roughly 2,000 pounds of copper valued at $6,000 from a trailer at Cleveland Auto Wrecking Inc., 2700 Youngstown-Hubbard Road.

June 20

Domestic violence: A charge was pending against a 52-year-old Liberty man after his girlfriend alleged the man had knocked her into a stove, then kicked a chair that struck her right knee during an argument related to a cellphone.

Theft: A 3-speed bicycle was taken from a carport in the 200 block of Colonial Drive.

Truck theft: A 2003 Ford F-150 truck was stolen in the 900 block of Colonial Drive.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A Church Hill-Hubbard Road woman said her boyfriend took her 2008 Chrysler Sebring vehicle without authorization.

June 21

Burglary: Someone cut a window screen and removed a purse from an apartment in the 3500 block of Somerset Drive.

Criminal damaging: Two windows to a press box were broken at a football field in the 300 block of Church Hill-Hubbard Road. Damage was estimated at $800.

Drug paraphernalia: Andrew J. Hunt of Euclid Boulevard, Liberty, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after police alleged that during a traffic stop on Trumbull Avenue, the 20-year-old Hunt had a box containing eight suspected marijuana pipes, two digital scales, a device to grind marijuana and papers commonly used to roll marijuana.

June 22

Arrest: A traffic stop on state Route 304 resulted in the arrest of 20-year-old Mark D. Takash of Pothour-Wheeler Road, Hubbard, on charges of operating a vehicle impaired and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Burglary: Someone apparently used a cinder block to break a side window to an apartment in the 3500 block of Somerset Drive. Police collected a broken piece of blood-spattered glass and glove, a report said.

GIRARD

June 20

Theft: Two porcelain yard decorations were removed from a lawn in the 400 block of Mosier Road.

Assault: A girl at Tod Park off Park Avenue told officers three girls jumped her from behind as she walked along a trail.

Theft: A man alleged that a U.S. Route 422 business refused to return his $10,000 trailer or accept payment for work having been done to it.

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a shed in the 400 block of Idaho Avenue and took about $5,000 worth of tools.

Theft: A woman reported roughly 44 prescription medications missing from her home in the 600 block of Hazel Street.

Burglary: Took place in the 300 block of Plymouth Avenue. Stolen were a laptop computer, a 42-inch flat-screen TV and miscellaneous clothing items, for a loss of $1,650.

Criminal mischief: A Plymouth Avenue woman reportedly saw two people fleeing her residence after having tossed an egg at the home.

June 21

Assault: A South Ward Avenue woman told officers a girl punched and kicked her daughter’s head, resulting in red marks and swelling.

June 22

Arrest: Youngstown police handed 35-year-old Ryan A. Berry to Girard authorities. Berry, of Crandall Avenue, Youngstown, was accused of failing to appear in court on a criminal-trespassing charge.

Felonious assault: A man alleged that an employee with a North State Street restaurant chased and shot at him and a friend after the two fled the eatery without having paid for their meals.

Menacing: A manager and an employer with a State Street pizzeria reported a man goaded the worker into a fight, apparently after having been angered with the food prices.

Menacing: An East Howard Street woman said a man has made continual unwanted calls to her, including a threat to beat up the accuser.

June 23

Drugs: A traffic stop on Route 422 resulted in charges of possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia against Jamie S. Schmitt, 25, of Shannon Road, Girard. Two syringes and two bags of suspected drug paraphernalia were found, police said.
