Cops get pills, cash

Police found 37 pills during one traffic stop over the weekend and $830 cash at another.

About 3:55 p.m. Sunday, police pulled over a car in front of a home in the 200 block of Catalina Avenue after it ran a stop sign, reports said.

The driver of the car, Dennis Burnett, 37, of Youngstown, appeared very nervous when questioned by police and denied having anything illegal inside the car, reports said. Reports said he gave officers permission to search it.

A back-seat passenger, Harold Brooks, 55, of Tod Lane, also appeared nervous as he was taken out of the car and searched, reports said. Reports said he asked an officer to stop searching him and then said there were drugs inside the car.

In a pouch on one of the seats police found a bag of suspected heroin, a bag of suspected crack cocaine and 37 pills.

Brooks was taken to the Mahoning County jail on charges of possession of drugs/heroin, possession of drugs/crack cocaine and two counts of possession of dangerous drugs.

A records check found Burnett has two open suspensions on his license, and he was taken to the jail on a charge of driving under suspension.

Just after midnight Saturday, police pulled over a car for having no license plate at Victor Avenue on the East Side. It was driven by 39-year-old Marcus Clinkscale of Granada Avenue.

A police dog sniffed outside the car and alerted to the driver’s side door, where police found three pills and also discovered a strong smell of burnt marijuana. Inside the center console of the car police found $830.

Clinkscale was taken to the jail on a charge of possession of drugs.
