Scrappers roll past Doubledays

AUBURN, N.Y.

Leadoff batter Greg Allen had three hits and scored four runs to help power the Mahoning Valley Scrappers to a 15-5 win over the Auburn Doubledays in Sunday’s New York-Penn League game at Falcon Park.

Steven Patterson singled, doubled twice, scored two runs and drove in three runs for the Scrappers (4-6), while Jorge Martinez added three hits, including a double, two runs and three RBIs.

Mahoning Valley led 1-0 entering the fifth inning, then scored 10 runs over the next three innings to break the game open. No. 9 hitter Drake Roberts had two hits, two runs and two RBIs and Taylor Murphy and Martin Cervenka had two hits and two RBIs apiece.

Julian Merryweather started and held the Doubledays hitless over three innings, striking out two without walking a batter. Anthony Vizcaya (1-0) pitched the next 31/3, getting the win despite giving up five runs on five hits and four walks.

Anderson Martinez (0-1) got the loss, giving up four runs on nine hits in 41/3 innings. Bryan Mejia had two hits, a run and a RBI for the Doubledays (5-5).

The Scrappers finish the two-game series today, then return to Eastwood Field for a five-game homestand.
