The next Oakhill pretrial hearing is Aug. 11

No jury-trial date has yet been set for the Oakhill Renaissance Place criminal-conspiracy case in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, but some housekeeping matters were handled Friday during a pretrial hearing.

The defendants are Mahoning County Auditor Michael V. Sciortino; Youngstown Mayor John A. McNally, who is a former county commissioner; and Atty. Martin Yavorcik, an unsuccessful candidate for county prosecutor in 2008.

“We’re just in the procedural aspects of the case now,” said Yavorcik’s lawyer, Jennifer Scott.

Judge Janet R. Burnside set a July 1 deadline for Daniel Kasaris, an assistant Ohio attorney general, to amend the indictment to correct typographical errors, with a July 10 deadline for the defense lawyers to file a written reply brief to the amended indictment.

Kasaris said in court the prosecution expects to provide most of its evidence to the defense in early July.

The next pretrial hearing will be at 9 a.m. Aug. 11.

The indictment against the three men, dismissed in Mahoning County in 2011, and recently refiled in Cuyahoga County, alleges a conspiracy to impede the move of the Mahoning County Department of Job and Family Services from then Cafaro Co.-owned rented quarters at Garland Plaza on Youngstown’s East Side to Oakhill Renaissance Place.

Oakhill is the former Forum Health Southside Medical Center, which the county bought in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in 2006 and to which JFS moved in 2007.
