Two impaired driver checkpoints tonight in Trumbull County

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Southington Post and the Brookfield and Niles police departments will have two operating-a-motor-vehicle-impaired checkpoints tonight.

They will be 10 p.m. tonight to 3 a.m. Saturday on state Route 7 in Brookfield Township and U.S. Route 422 in Niles.

OVI checkpoints are funded by federal grants and are an attempt to deter and intercept imipaired drivers. There were 274 OVI-related fatal crashes that killed 300 people in 2013, said Lt. Brian Holt, commander of the Southington Post.
