Sheriff: Man dead at dad's home severely neglected

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Investigators in northern Ohio have charged a husband and wife with involuntary manslaughter after the man’s disabled 33-year-old son was found dead at home weighing 94 pounds and covered in bed sores.

Authorities near Sandusky say David Arthur Jr. was a victim of severe medical neglect.

Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth says it appears that Arthur, who was unable to walk, had been lying in the same spot in his bed for months.

The sheriff says Arthur’s weight dropped from 300 pounds to less than 100 in the three years since he moved from a nursing home into his father’s home.

Arthur’s father and stepmother are in jail and are due to be arraigned Friday. The sheriff says the stepmother is employed as a home health care worker.
