Campbell cops break up melee
Staff report
CAMPBELL
City police broke up a melee involving nearly 60 people Murray Avenue and Jean Street on Wednesday evening.
Police Chief Drew Rauzan said city police responded to the area about 7 p.m. Wednesday. Though the fight originally involved few teenage girls, it quickly escalated when their adult family members and neighbors also joined in, either fighting or encouraging others to do so, Rauzan said.
He said the crowd as a whole was aggressive and refused to disperse, and officers even used pepper spray in an attempt to control it.
Officers from several area departments assisted the Campbell Police Department, and three people were arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and menacing.
