Vallourec Star receives sustainability award

YOUNGSTOWN — Vallourec Star received the 2014 Environmental Stewardship Recycling Award at the Steel Manufacturers Association annual board meeting in May.

Vallourec was recognized for the results achieved at its new water treatment facility.

The facility produces consistent, high-level water quality that is required in the company’s pipe-making and finishing processes.

More than 99 percent of the total water recirculating flow is recaptured and reused to produce water that is clean enough to drink.

Also, 97 percent of solids and waste generated from the manufacturing process are recycled through Vallourec’s waste management plant.

Vallourec Star is a joint venture between Vallourec and Sumitomo Corp. to produce seamless pipes used in oil and gas applications.
