Malfunctioning emergency siren in Struthers repaired and back in service

STRUTHERS

The malfunctioning emergency siren that sounded its alarm for a few minutes

Tuesday morning has been repaired and is back in service.

Dennis O'Hara, interim director of the Mahoning County Emergency Management

Agency, said he was alerted by the Struthers Fire Department to the problem

at about 8:30 a.m., and that repair crews found an internal piece of testing

equipment to be the culprit. The faulty piece of equipment was replaced just

hours later.

O'Hara added that the siren, located in the parking lot across the street

from Struthers High School's football stadium, is the same siren that

malfunctioned shortly after 11 p.m. Feb. 16, sounding its alarm for about an

hour.

But unlike that malfunction, which caused concerned residents to flood the

Struthers Police Department with concerned phone calls, only a couple of

city residents called the department Tuesday morning, police said.
