Bank plans $20K donation to stadium

Cortland Banks today will be giving $20,000 to the Boardman Booster Club for the new stadium that is being constructed. The check ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. at the Boardman High School Sports Complex, 7777 Glenwood Avenue.

The new Spartan Stadium sits off of Nisonger Road, and the groundbreaking ceremony for the turf section of the field will take place at 10 a.m. Friday.

Firefighters battled blazes at three vacant structures over the weekend.

About 2:30 a.m. Saturday, firefighters were called to a vacant building at 153 E. Delason Ave. on the South Side, where they found the building fully engulfed in fire. Damage is listed at $610.

A 48 E. Avondale Ave. home, also on the South Side, caught fire about 3:25 a.m. Sunday. Firefighters there had to hack their way inside because the home was secured. Damage there is listed at $5,000.

About 11:40 p.m. Sunday, crews were called to a vacant 2034 Elm St. building on the North Side that was called in by a police officer on patrol. Flames there could be seen on the first and second floor, reports said. Damage there is listed at $2,500.

There were no injuries.
