2 YSU business students earn outstanding awards

Rebecca Forney of Columbiana and Sterling Morris of North Lima, students in the Lariccia School of Accounting and Finance in the Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University, received outstanding awards in finance and accounting from the Northeast Ohio Chapter of the Financial Executives International.

Each student earned $100, a certificate of achievement, a year’s digital subscription to Financial Executive, the monthly magazine published by FEI, and a complimentary one-year subscription to the Financial Executive Research Foundation Research, a knowledge base of current and emerging issues in finance and accounting.

Recipients must be juniors majoring in finance or accounting with an grade-point average that ranks in the top 5 percent of their graduating group. Students also must have demonstrated personal traits that show leadership and related qualifications necessary for a successful career as a financial executive.

Forney, a member of the Dean’s List, is secretary of the Student Investment Fund at YSU. SIF members, with the guidance of faculty advisers, manage an actual stock portfolio with a value in excess of $840,000. She also attends professional development events, including the RISE 14 conference, a prestigious student forum that features speakers from Wall Street, corporate America and the financial media. She plans to pursue a master’s degree in business administration and would like to become a budget analyst for the government at the state level.

Morris, also a member of the YSU’s Dean’s List, has completed two internships with FirstEnergy and the FEIC Financial Services Co. in Portfolio Management. He also received the Academic Stars Certificate and is a member of SIF and Beta Gamma Sigma, the business honor society for AACSB accredited business schools. Morris also participated in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program at YSU, where he prepared income taxes for low- income families and individuals from the community. He wants to acquire a position in investment banking that focuses on continued employee, business and community growth. Morris is completing his third internship with Key Bank.
