DOCTORATE

Doctor of pharmacy

Sara N. McAllister, daughter of Greg and Rhonda McAllister of Austintown, has received her doctor of pharmacy degree from Ohio Northern University’s Raabe College of Pharmacy.

At Ohio Northern, she was a member of the Kappa Epsilon professional pharmacy fraternity serving as fundraising chairwoman and vice president of social affairs. She was a staff author on the Pharmacy and Wellness Review, an academic review of therapeutics sent to health-care professionals throughout the country.

She served as an executive board member for the President’s Club, where she traveled to various alumni functions across the country serving as a liaison between alumni and current students.

She was inducted into the Mortar Board Senior College Honor Society and Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honorary, where she served as an executive board member from 2011 to 2013.

Dr. McAllister is a 2008 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School. She has accepted a job with a Walgreens store where she has been employed the past seven years.

Doctorate in statistics

Keith Halbert, a 2000 graduate of Springfield Local High School, has graduated from Temple University with a doctorate in statistics. His dissertation was titled “Estimation of Probability of Failure for Damage-Tolerant Aerospace Structures.”

Halbert earned his aerospace- engineering degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla., in 2004, and earned two master’s degrees in financial engineering and statistics from Temple University in 2008 and 2010, respectively.

He has been an aerospace engineer for Boeing in Philadelphia since 2004 and lives in the Philadelphia area with his wife, Kelly, and their two children.

Halbert is the son of Ken and Kathi Halbert of Springfield Township.

Doctorate of audiology

Carmen Patricia Jamis of Lowellville, daughter of Barbara (Donatelli) Jamis of Lowellville and Gary Gamis of Conway, Pa., has earned a doctorate of audiology from Gallaudet University, the world’s only liberal arts university in which all programs and services are designed to accommodate deaf and hard-of-hearing students.

Jamis completed her undergraduate degree at Cleveland State University and was part of the honors program. She graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in hearing and speech.

LAWYERS

Juris doctor degree

Mike Disotell, son of Darlene and Bill Disotell, has received his juris doctor degree from Ohio State University’s Moritz College of Law.

Disotell is a graduate of Boardman High School and graduated summa cum laude from Westminster College, majoring in English. At Westminster, he served as a student-government senator, president of his senior leadership society and president of his social fraternity, Phi Kappa Tau, where he was a founding member of a national undergraduate advisory board.

In law school, Disotell graduated near the top of his class and was awarded the Public Service Fellow Distinction. He served as managing editor for his law journal and competed as a member of OSU’s National Moot Court team.

After taking the Ohio bar exam in July, Disotell will begin his career with the international law firm Orrick, Harrington & Sutcliffe LLP.

SCOUTS

Eagle Scout award

Brian Anthony Swantek, son of Brian and Mary Swantek of New Middletown, received his Eagle Scout award during a recent court-of-honor ceremony. He is a member of Scout Troop 119 of the Whispering Pines District of the Greater Western Reserve Council of Boy Scouts, chartered to New Springfield Church of God. Joseph Angelo is the troop’s scoutmaster.

Swantek has been involved with Scouting since he was a Tiger Cub Scout with Pack 22 of St. Christine Church in Youngstown. He earned his Arrow of Light award, Cub Scouting’s highest award, in February 2007, before crossing over to Boy Scouts with Troop 22.

He joined Troop 119 after moving to New Middletown in 2008. Since becoming a Boy Scout, he has had troop positions of scribe, quartermaster, assistant patrol leader, senior patrol leader, troop guide and junior assistant scoutmaster.

While a member of Troop 119, he was elected to the Order of the Arrow and is a Brotherhood member of Wapashuwi Lodge 56. He earned 42 merit badges and participated in a 50-mile canoe trip to Algonquin Provincial Park in Canada in 2012. He participated at the 2010 National Scout Jamboree at Fort AP Hill.

For his Eagle Scout service project, Brian planned, coordinated and supervised the removal of brush and the rehabilitation of the Mindy Henning Memorial Trail near Mill Creek MetroParks Bikeway Trailhead at MetroParks Farm in Canfield.

He is a 2014 graduate of Springfield Local High School, where he was a member of National Honor Society, Policy and Rulebook committee, and ski and chess clubs. He is a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in New Middletown.

DOCTORS

Osteopathic medicine

Patrick Michael Malie, son of Christine Malie and James Malie of Youngstown, has earned a doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Georgia campus

He earned a bachelor’s degree in managerial economics from Allegheny College in 2007 and a master’s degree in biomedical sciences from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Georgia campus, in 2010.

Dr. Malie is continuing his medical training in internal medicine at Corpus Christi Medical Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
