David Betras easily wins re-election as Mahoning Dems chairman

Staff report

BOARDMAN

Mahoning County Democratic Party Chairman David Betras was easily re-elected today by the party’s precinct committee members.

Betras received 134 votes compared with Socrates Kolitsos with 54 votes and Rick Berger with three.

Betras, elected to a second four-year term, had a slate of candidates running with him.

All of them won except Kenneth Carano as executive vice chairman.

Winning that seat was Ronald Massullo on a third ballot of voting.

One more vote than 50 percent was needed to get elected to county Democratic Party positions.

The other winners were: Jamael Tito Brown for vice chairman of minority affairs, Joe Halas — who ran unopposed — as vice chairman of labor relations, Joyce Kale-Pesta as secretary, and Richard Clautti as treasurer.

Mahoning County Republicans also met today, re-electing Mark Munroe as chairman and Donna Bricker as party chairwoman.

Tracey Winbush was elected vice chairwoman, replacing Ed Crepage who didn’t seek re-election. They all ran unopposed.
