12 dogs removed

WARREN

City police and the dog warden removed 12 dogs from a home at Oak and Nevada streets Tuesday.

Vindicator news partner 21 WFMJ-TV reported that neighbors had called with concerns for the animals’ welfare. A small confrontation occurred at the door of the house, and the homeowner shut the door in the officials’ faces, the station reported.

A few moments later the dogs were released from the home.

All the dogs were impounded in the Trumbull County Dog Pound and some of them are now with the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County. The investigation is ongoing, and charges may be filed against the homeowner.

Soup kitchen to reopen

YOUNGSTOWN

The St. Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen on Front Street downtown will reopen today after having to close Tuesday morning because of a gas leak.

Skip Barone, dining-hall manager, said a work crew from Dominion East Ohio Gas will be at the facility early this morning to fix the problem.

“I’m going to go in and make coffee and prepare for a normal day,” Barone said Tuesday. “If we’re not able to use the stove, we’ll have sandwiches — bagged lunches.”

A client detected the odor and a hissing sound outside the soup kitchen Tuesday morning and notified Barone, who called the gas company.
