Fatal crash probed

The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed a 43-year-old Bristolville man Sunday on state Route 88 in the township.

Kenneth Hudnell was driving west on Route 88 about 5:10 p.m. when he lost control of his Dodge vehicle on a wet roadway, the vehicle hitting a sign and then a utility pole, according to a patrol report. Hudnell was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle.

He was pronounced dead a the scene by paramedics.

Georgann Barrickman, 51, of Kinsman was in the vehicle and suffered nonlife-threatening injuries. She was wearing her seat belt, the patrol said.

A Niles man asked for court-appointed counsel during his arraignment Monday on charges of threats against his workplace.

Michael J. Rickard, 21 of Niles, has two misdemeanor charges, aggravated menacing and inducing panic, and was in Mahoning County Area Court on Monday in front of Sebring Judge Diane Vettori. He entered a plea of not guilty and is required to bring in his pay stubs to receive court-appointed counsel.

According to a police report, Rickard had an altercation with an employee Thursday night at Pure Foods, 340 Victoria Road. He then called his manager after leaving and reportedly told her he was going to “shoot everyone in the building.”

The business was shut down Thursday night, and the charges were filed Friday. He was picked up by authorities Friday.

Merchandise stolen

BOARDMAN

A total of $2,275 in merchandise was stolen from Home Depot, 7001 Southern Blvd., on two separate occasions on July 19 and 24, according to a police report.

A store employee reported that last Thursday, a man tried to take a Bosch self-leveler out of the store. The employee recognized the man from another theft that had occurred July 19. He followed the man outside and prevented him from taking the leveler.

On July 19, the same man and a female suspect had filled a shopping cart with $1,400 worth of items and took it out of the store without paying for anything, according to the employee.

These streets will be affected for 2014 Great Youngstown Italian Fest from 3 a.m. Wednesday through 7 a.m. Monday.

The streets are Central Square (Market/Wick St.), closed from Boardman and Commerce streets; Federal Street, closed from Phelps Street to South Ave.; Champion Street, closed from Boardman to Commerce streets; and Walnut Street closed from Commerce to Boardman streets.
