Brothers charged in death of teen who stole bike

Tuesday, July 29, 2014

CLEVELAND (AP) — Police say two Cleveland brothers were charged with felonious assault after using their cars to hit and kill a 17-year-old boy who they claim had stolen a dirt bike from them.

Tracy Philpott Jr., from the Cleveland suburb of Warrensville Heights, died Saturday at a hospital, two days after being struck by cars police say were driven by 24-year-old Aaron Trail and 28-year-old Alfonso Trail on Cleveland’s east side.

A police report says Philpott brandished a gun when he and an unidentified male robbed the brothers of the dirt bike. Police say the Trails got into separate cars after hearing the dirt bike stall a short distance away, found Philpott and hit him with their cars.

Both brothers posted bond Monday. It’s unclear if they have attorneys.
