No injuries reported in Boardman house fire

BOARDMAN

There were no injuries in a house fire Sunday night.

Boardman fire officials received a call at 8:13 p.m. of a confirmed house fire at 1776 Daffodil Trail in a subdivision off Western Reserve Road.

The family was not home during the blaze.

Once at the home, Boardman firefighters called for support from Western Reserve Joint Fire District and Springfield Township Fire Department. Boardman Fire Capt. Bill Glaser said the Cardinal Joint Fire District also was standing by at Boardman’s station but didn’t come to the fire. He said the reason for the support was that crews “had a large volume of fire when we showed up.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Boardman’s fire investigator.

Extensive damage could be seen on the first floor of the large home.

Glaser said most of the fire was confined to the first floor and that Sunday’s storms hampered crews. “It made it worse. You get into slip and falls. We were worried about the lightning more than anything,” Glaser said.

Man faces numerous charges after chase

NEW CASTLE

A man was arrested on a slew of charges after evading police Saturday, city police reported.

Dion William Wagner, 21, of Braddock, Pa., was arrested Saturday morning on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude police, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief, driving under the influence, possession of marijuana, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and numerous traffic violations, according to a release.

His bond was set at $50,000 Saturday morning at a preliminary arraignment.

Wagner is accused of running a red light at East Washington and Jefferson streets in New Castle at 7:53 a.m. Saturday. A Pennsylvania State Police trooper activated his lights for Wagner to pull over, but he continued to drive and drove through red lights and on the left side of the road, forcing other vehicles off the road.

After this went on for a time, authorities eventually disabled Wagner’s car. He was removed by force from his car after refusing to exit, and a bag of suspected marijuana was found on him, according to a news release.
